The single most important success factor in providing care in the home is the consistency and competency of the caregiver staff. For over 35 years the culture of Personal Care has been to invest in and support our caregivers. Personal Care employs all of its caregivers protecting our employees and our clients with worker’s compensation, liability and criminal insurance. Knowing our success is dependent on the caregivers we send into the home, we work diligently on how we hire, how we orient, how we train and support and how we optimize the care that is delivered.
Hiring Caregivers
- Applicants are prequalified via phone interview
- In person interviews for those progressing in the process
- Competency testing as the first step in the interview process
- Application processing to evaluate verifiable past experience
- Criminal background checks and onsite drug testing
- Former employee reference checks
- Caregivers hired are insured and bonded
Onboarding and Training Caregivers
- Comprehensive orientation required before starting work
- Extensive training curriculum utilizing industry experts with focus on dementia, chronic disease management and hospice care
- Requirement for caregivers to receive 50% more training per year than the state regulations mandate
- Soft skills training required assists with enhancing caregiver communication with clients, families and staff
- Personal budgeting and retirement classes offered
- Ongoing hands on training (including proxy care) via nursing mentors in the field
Supporting Caregivers
- Provide caregivers with options for healthcare insurance, 401K and paid time off
- Improving caregiver retention and consistency by providing an average of 36 hours per week of work
- Compensating caregivers fairly for overtime incurred in advance of the state mandates
- Annual caregiver recognition banquet and multiple events during the year expressing appreciation and support for the work they do
Optimizing Care Delivery
- RN overseeing and working hand–in-hand with caregivers in the homes
- Proactive collaboration between Personal Care RN’s and caregivers with clients, with family members, with senior living staff, with home health and hospice caregivers and with referral sources.
- 24/7 on call availability of Personal Care staff
- Capabilities to deliver more complex care through Proxy Care Services
Personal Care caregivers are the foundation of our company. They are the first line of service, which is why we pride ourselves on only hiring the most experienced and qualified caregivers in the industry. All our caregivers are employees and are fully insured for worker’s compensation, liability, and criminal insurance. We also commit to an in-depth orientation and ongoing continuing education to improve the level of our skills. We often bring in guest lecturers including the area ombudsman, home health and hospice nurses, and others.
